Check out these tasty Cinnamon Pear Chips made with just 2 ingredients. So incredibly delicious, they are sure to disappear as fast as you can make them.
My friends, I’m obsessed with these Cinnamon Pear Chips. We picked up a ton of produce at the local farm here in town. It was super fun & now I can’t get enough of these fall recipes with all the apples & pears we have around here.
This is perfect if you are like me & either have your own fruit trees OR have orchards all around you selling their bounties for next to nothing. I am seriously in produce heaven & I think I actually might have a hoarding problem when it comes to having fresh produce in the house.
We were already bursting at the seams when I sent the hubs down to the farm to pick up even more apples. I may be going a little crazy or at the very least trying to make up for having only store-bought (shabby looking) produce the entire time we lived in NV.
I am really loving that I know exactly where my food is coming from. We love being able to pick our own fruit, either from our own garden or from the local farms here.

I became obsessed with drying my own fruit decades ago when we visited my grandmother’s farm in Oregon. They had a ton of fruit trees but I didn’t realize how much I would want my own until she packed us a bag of dried apples for our drive home. I snacked on those the whole 13-hour drive.
From that moment on I have not only wanted to have my own fruit trees but really look forward to when I can dehydrate our produce too.
We don’t have fruit trees on our property, but we do have a lot of berry bushes. That keeps us completely satisfied when it comes to berries all summer long. But it is nice to just drive down the street & have all the fruit trees I could ever wish for at my fingertips. It makes making these pear chips so easy!
Here are some commonly asked questions
Can I make this recipe with apples?
Yes- of course. We do this often, I just happened to have pears that needed attention when I made this. But apples are great too.
What is the best way to store extra pear chips?
These pear chips are best when stored in a paper bag. You don’t want to put them in an airtight container because when you trap any remaining moisture that may be left in these after drying by placing them in something that doesn’t breathe, they will go bad quickly. No one wants to eat food that is growing “new food”.
Since these are dried, it is perfectly okay for them to continue drying by allowing a bit of airflow. A paper bag (like a lunch sack) is perfect for that.
Can I use a dehydrator for this recipe?
Generally, yes. Your time may be different. I would recommend setting them for 135 degrees for 4-5 hours depending on how chewy or crisp you want them.

How many does this make?
This recipe calls for 2 pears. So it will depend on the size of your pears & how thin you slice them as to how many you actually get. But generally, I recommend 1 pear per person, per serving.
Can this recipe be doubled?
YES – I love to double & continue to double this recipe. Generally, I like to make enough to pack for lunches throughout the week. I especially like to make a huge batch when we are planning a trip & I know we need road snacks.

What mandoline do you recommend?
In order to get the slices nice & thin, I really like to use a mandoline slicer. That being said – these are quite dangerous, as my husband found out the hard way. So PLEASE use caution, always use the holder for the food when slicing & consider picking up a metal glove to use along with this mandoline.
Can I mix my own cinnamon & sugar?
Yes, absolutely. Try using 1 tbsp granulated sugar to 1 tsp cinnamon & stir to combine.
To make this recipe you will need…
- pears
- cinnamon/sugar mixture

Couple of questions… Your recipe doesn’t say to peel or core repairs. But if I can see the picture correctly you have definitely taken the core out But it looks like maybe you did not peel them? Also, all of my dehydrator recipes for pears so you must dip them in lemon juice or a sorbic acid to keep them from turning brown. You didn’t do this and it was OK? Lastly, do you use fully ripe pears or is it OK to use hairs that are still on the hard side.
Gina Kleinworth says
I did core the pears but didn’t peel them – but neither is necessary. Some people don’t mind those parts – so it is really a personal preference. I didn’t soak them in anything either because I was working quickly. If you are doing a large batch, you could probably soak them to keep them from browning while you work. I haven’t made this recipe in quite a few years, but if I remember correctly the pears were semi-firm. I think it is a bit easier for slicing if they aren’t too soft. But that might be different if you are slicing with a mandolin vs a knife as I was using at the time.
Thanks for your questions – I’ll update the recipe with more notes.
Kelly Coffman says
Do you put the sugar and cinnamon on both sides or just the top?
Gina Kleinworth says
That’s up to you – depending on how prevalent you want the flavor. I find that one side is enough for us.
